My first campaign setting. This is meant to be the setting. If I gave away the DM notes than the players could just read and look where the monsters and treasure are lol.
THE SETTING!!!!!
In a distant realm, beyond that of human expansion and even still farther than explorers dared to travel lived a small and curious tribe of dwarfs. Making their home deep in a cave atop a tall mountain in the midst of a vast range, they find themselves with a peculiar neighboring family; dragons. To be exact, the dragons that live in this region happen to be Gold Metallic Dragons.
These most intelligent breed of dragons, rather than find the dwarfs as an easy meal, find interest in the dwarfs' means of survival and, wooed by the dwarfs' vitality and dedication, gave their trust and even their blood to the dwarfs, thus allowing them to take dragon-like characteristics. As the dwarfs got more and more of the dragon blood, the more characteristics they inherited. Soon, they became almost more dragon than dwarf, and thus they dubbed themselves Martzen.
Among these Martzen of Martzfroft was a family, who bore a son. This son was almost too dragon, however. The other Martzen's dragon-like characteristics were for the most part the scales, superior intellect and ability to burp the occasional fireball, but this boy was born with fully developed wings and talons sharp as blades. As soon as the boy was conceived, the dragons that gave the dwarfs the blood, stepped in and took the boy from his mother.
As soon as the boy was taken, the dragons departed from the village, leaving their dependent Martzens behind. Lost and without purpose, they fought each other and became savages, forming small tribes across the range, making little caves in the rock and snow. Some were civilized and hunted for food, other's still cannibalized. However, it is said that the dragons left a great bit of treasure with the Martzens, and some tribes are willing to give theirs to those who bring the boy the dragon took with them, for they prophesied the return of the boy and the dragons. However, the travelers who seek the treasure are told to be the main source of food for the cannibalistic tribes.
"Nothing burns like the breath of an angry Martzen on frost-bitten skin" an old man on the street says.
